Very Berri

Well, you know the drill by now, Blog. I get one image done, and then I find a whole bunch more on an old external hardrive that are tantalizing work in progresses. What? Don’t look at me like that. You know how I strive — often to counter-intuitive heights — for the feeling of completion and hard drive tidiness.  Besides, how am I expected to resist  something where half the work is already done for me?

I think I did this linework’ two years ago as part of a set. This is my Cheerleading Fairy of Optimism. She was probably supposed to have wings, but it’s very possible I was overdosing on cutesy girly imagery at the time, and just couldn’t bring myself to include them in the final ‘inks’.  I’d forgotten I’d ever drawn hair like that, and it’s kinda nice. Anyway, I’m hoping that putting this little lady up on the Blog will motivate me to A) finish her B) finish the ugly-ass sketch of her partner. By the way, the absurd idea of a ‘Cheerleading Optimist Fairy’ came from a tiny comic I’d done years and years and years ago over here.

Sob, Blog. Why can’t the hard parts be done by other people? Anatomy is so difficult and I don’t wannaaaa. You finish the sketch, Blog, I just want to colour.

Yeah, okay, I’ll stop whining and go get things done. Glad we had this talk. You’re the best.

+1 image to the work in progress category.

You know what, Blog? I know you really like that look, but you’ve been wearing that same thing since June 10th and honestly, you’re making me a little uncomfortable. Time to change out of that and put on something new. Or at least something that doesn’t look that gross. Or smell… I mean really, Blog. Have you even put that in the laundry at all… you know what? Forget I asked.

What I’m trying to say here is that I’ve gotten tired of looking at that sad colour-spot-test thing that’s been haunting my most recent post page. Also, I’m embarrassed by how awkward it is, even if it is just a WIP.  So to flush out the bad, here’s the much nicer looking sketchy until I have time to actually colour this properly.

I also mentioned in the last post that I was waffling between making Rinzler tall or short. I wasn’t joking about having gotten a more refined sketch of tiny!Rinzler, and while he looks fine (barring a few anatomy issues I’ll have to fix up) he just doesn’t look as striking as tall!Rinzler. Also, with Uprsing’s crazy stretched out insanely awkwardly tall anatomy going on, maybe tall is the right way to go? Even though this picture is dated July 2011, I’m so slow at art, that by now, there’s already been at least 3+ similar themed Tron fanarts floating around. I’ll admit I’ve been a little nervous to continue working on this for fear that someone’ll jump out of a bush and call me a dreaded ‘idea-stealer.’ What I think I need to do here, Blog, is remind myself that ALL ideas have already been done, flip my hair over my shoulder, and just do what I want. I still might need you to hold my hand though, Blog. You know, for reasons.

PS: that red elbow-y sort of thing that’s going on in the left side there was my sketch for a matching Ram who I’d also put in a suit. These two were supposed to be based off an AU from the 60′s where they were both varying degrees of detectives. Unfortunately that endeavour kind of lost steam, so it’ll just be Rinzler in the end that’ll get completed. Once upon a time, I had a Clu in there too. Oh well, at least I’ve a better chance of finishing this now.

Hey Blog, this is what you get for taking forever at doing your art. Sure, “concentrate on real life,” they said, “it’ll be a good, idea” they said; “you’ll thank us later when you’re able to pay your bills.” Yeah, well, THANKS FOR NOTHING, Practical Advice. You get all tangled up with school, work, and sig figs, and next thing you know a new television show has come out, and unless you can finagle your picture done before a couple more canon reveals, all your fanwork won’t make any sense.

That’s what you get for trying to take care of business, Blog. Leave it to you to take care of exactly the wrong business.

And speaking of business, let’s talk funny business. Namely the funny business of Bruce Boxleitner be Tron be Rinzler be Anis Cheurfa and their distinctly wavering heights. Originally I was going to draw short Legacy Rinzler, but the sketch came out 80′s Tron tall. I’ve got a more refined sketch of the bloke with a smaller stature, but given how lanky everyone is in Uprising (which I still haven’t watched) I wonder if I should retool this guy to be somewhat less short?

Oh hey Blog, looks like my life is this continuous cycle of  never having time to do art but when I do, then having to send off my glitchy computers for fixing. And by fixing I mean the tech people will give it a cursory look over and then shake their heads sadly. But enough about me, Blog, let’s talk about you.

I can’t help but notice that your latest entry (this) is sporting a new WIP. I also can’t help but notice that it was for a picture you said you’d do for someone, what, roughly two years ago? Anyway, nice to see you’re still at that. Even if, you know, your timing is kind of embarrassingly  horrible.

Remember the sketch I did back here?

Well here are the two main colour schemes I’m waffling between. Do I pick creepy, pale and sickly looking? Or creepy and ethically ambiguous? I’m torn between the two, but leaning more towards Pasty there on the right, since Primeverse Starscream is the palest and greyest of all mechs in the series so far.

Ps: gosh I’m on the edge of my seat with this show, and wondering how they’re going to end up balancing Starscream’s badass moments with his overwhelming patheticness.

Anyway, I could sure do with a vote on what colours looks best.

See, Blog? I didn’t leave you again. We’re still here, and we’re gonna be okay. You can trust me for just a little while longer, Blog.  I’m not going anywhere, and I’m going to keep talking to you in this vaguely creepy fashion for a while yet, so you don’t need to worry. Everything’s going to be okay for a little bit longer. Relax and just watch this nice .gif I made for you. Shhh, just relax, shhhh.

Final image can be found here.

So I really like making animations apparently. I hope you guys don’t mind them too much, either. Ovbiously there’s considerable colour loss when things are shrunk down into .gifs, but overall, these are kind of neat, right? … Right guys?

Oh. Looks like it’s just you and me, Blog.

You’re all alone. With me.

.

In other news, pretty sure this makes me sound like a Blog predator or something. Hide yo’ tumblrs and dreamwidths. (Speaking of, I’ve ported my LJ over to DW, so you’re free to follow me there if you’ve got an account. Never fear though! I’ll still be hanging around LJ, and the updates will keep coming, but if you were part of the mass LJ exodus too, let’s be buddies and commiserate together. Also, anyone wanna be tumblr pals? Got me one (or three) of those.)

Or alternatively; Spot the goldfish.

pluraslist

Did you find the goldfish yet?

This was done with pencil crayons, oil pastel, markers, and lots of crayons from my elementary school days.
I’m not entirely satisfied with this, but at least I finished it right and proper. I was at the university till 1 am pretty much. I hit all the required points for this assignment and ho boy, if I don’t get a rockin’ grade on this baby, there will be hell to pay plenty of indignation and argument forthcoming.

In other news, I had a bit of a blues period which now seems to be over. Good job Angela-self. Now I’m just angry. This is actually good news, because maybe now I’ll harness my rage!energy™ (300 horse power) and get a whole bunch of partying work done this weekend.

Bahahaha! It’s my birthday tomorrow! Celebrate with me!

I figure with this awesome holiday approaching (Holiday for ME at least) I can guilelessly take a day off from my exam cramming.

So here are some abstracts and some messing around with photoshop.

Not too sure if I’m really done with all these but at the moment, the due date is over so I don’t have time / need to polish them up right away.

Alchemy

Something on the ice and in the water

blue-abstract-closeup

Close up of the blue one. Those fine details I scratched in the oil pastel with a needle. Fun stuff.

Tropica Exotica

Coral Carnivale

—————-

Some more random words or something hahaha.

These look like so much fun but were a pain and another rush job (but what else is new?)

Happy Birthmorrow to me! Hahaha!

I haven’t been very active here on my blog for the last week, but I plan to remedy this.

Today I’m posting random WIPs and sketches from around September of this year –so new-ish stuff.

My shoe. I forgot I needed to have a still life drawn for class which was due in about 8 minutes. Whipped this thing up in  6. Graphite stick? (red filter on gimp because it was boring.)

Just a warm up sketch done in class. Wished I had had more time to work on this, I liked where it was going. Graphite stick again, probably.

~~~
Ok, now for the naked people. These are just linearts, no shading was allowed.
My first time drawing live nudes. It was pretty fun, this guy is apparently the city’s best model. Pretty shoddy camera photos though. All gesture drawings. Various materials. The last full body picture is probably my favorite; it was around here that I started getting into the swing of the exercise.
Second model, still line arts,  first woman model. This lady had a whole bunch of body modifications (that I didn’t draw): decorative scarring, tattoos and piercings. She did have some pretty awesome hair though.
First model again. I liked the way I managed to use just lines and still describe plane shifts on the body.
Anatomy
The last post had a link to a perspective tutorial. I am terrible at perspective and evidently need to improve, thus tutorial. Another aspect of drawing that I know could use improvement is anatomy.
I’ve borrowed a few books on this topic and will probably be posting the sketches I copy from it. (Thats the only way I’ll learn right?)
In any case I hope these aren’t too boring. I’ll still be posting non anatomy related art too, so no worries there.
So this page is from one of my sketchbooks, and the image itself was copied from the book: Dynamic Anatomy by Burnes Hogarth. Please excuse the sloppy printing and I fully realize I could be completely off when it comes to the muscle groups. If you see any errors, I would love to have them pointed out.
