While I try to fend off falling into some bad habits of mine, I’ve been working on and off on this new Fall of Cybertron Shockwave picture. Decided to try painting without a lineart this time because I’d hoped it would end up being a faster process. So far, I’m not sure about that.
Geez, this guy’s arms are going to be a nightmare to render. I’m not looking forward to that.
Oh well, we’ll have to see how this goes. I trust you’ll support me in this endeavour, Blog? (PS: You had better.)
Hey Tumblr,
Remember when I had other fandoms besides Transformers? Yeah, me neither. However, it turns out other people do. I told Plurk I'd work on some fanart for the first (couple) fandom(s) of mine people listed and this was one of them.
Blame Sharn and Expo for this. Also Winzler. In fact, this WIP is only uploaded because Winzler told me to.
ANYWAY, ENJOY YOUR NOT-TERRIBLY-ORIGINAL fanart. The ghost is angry because they left candy all over the floor.
Remember when I said I’d done another version of this picture, well, here it is. This isn’t perfect, mind you, but this had been an effort to speed up my illustration process so I decided to leave things a little rough around the edges. I also thought the previous image was maybe a little too sombre, so why not liven things up a little? Not to mention the fact that Canada has entered full on winter mode all up in here and I figured a change of pace was in order. Time to bust out those summer colours!
Let’s see Autumn off with a bang! The kind that sounds like a rivet gun through a window and into a skull.
Don’t have much else to add except this is probably the first illustrative transparent .png I’ve ever done. Looks like I can cross THAT off my bucket list finally. Phew, lucky me.
Oh wow, Blog. Why didn’t you tell me how dusty your fanart section was getting? I would’ve helped you out or something. I mean, that’s what absent minded, missing friends are for, right?
But seriously, I just took a look at your fanart section and I’m kind of embarrassed for you. Has it really been that long since we’ve uploaded something there? And how about those Transformers eh? Never in my life did I think I was going to like anything about the franchise, but backtrack to last January and oops, I think I fell in amour. And I fell hard.
Speaking of amour, or rather her opposite: Spiting Abhorrence, I can’t tell if I actually hate this image or not. It started out as a shoddy little work doodle that digivolved into something I’d planned to use as a 100 x 100 icon… and at some point this started to happen, and I was powerless to stop it. Around that time I made 3 goals for myself because if this was going to grow into a quasi-finished image, then by golly I was going to accomplish something else along the way.
Goals:
- Finally figure out how to cell shade (because this was going to be a quick image, and that’s quick colouring… right? Right?) [FAILED]
- Actually get an icon out of this image since that was kind of the point [FAILED]
- Learn to use Paint Tool Sai [A+]
Oh well. 1 out of a 3 ain’t bad. Why, if you squint and round up, that’s practically half! In any case, I’ve done a different version of this picture and it’s possible I find it a lot less cranky-inducing. In fact, you could almost say it was passable. And if we’re being really generous here, Blog, you could even be so bold as to say that I actually almost like the other version.
If you’re good, maybe I’ll let you see it.
Rung, honey, baby bolts, you should uh, really see somebody about those head insides of yours that are kind of… falling out your outsides.
And once again we see my attempt to learn coloured cellshading failing horribly. Also, where did that upper torso come from? That wasn’t supposed to be there either…
Dear hands,
Please start doing what I want you to.
Thanks.
Love,
MmeJack
Hey, uh, Blog… there’s something I’ve been meaning to ask you. Y’see, me and the guys couldn’t help but notice that lately you’ve gotten this … propensity of posting pics of … dudes with mangled faces. And while it’s all fine and good, and totally normal for everyone to have a thing, well…. we’re getting a little worried about you. This is beginning to look a bit like you’ve got a problem…
No, Blog, No. Put down the ax, Blog. Just put it down and step away from the– NO, BLOG, NO.
NO.
NO.
In other news, I think I really like Transformers now. So here’s a couple awkward sketches of a really sweet, mild mannered robot psychologist who accidentally gets his head blown off, in a really tragic turn of events from a really fabulous comic. I’ve already got a coloured version in the works, but note to self: fix this bloke’s eyes and give the poor guy some shoulders or something. Alas, I guess this is what happens when you sketch in pen, what with that whole no-erase quality it’s got going on. You live and you learn, I guess. TOO BAD I DON’T SEEM TO EVER LEARN.
Remember the sketch I did back here?
Well here are the two main colour schemes I’m waffling between. Do I pick creepy, pale and sickly looking? Or creepy and ethically ambiguous? I’m torn between the two, but leaning more towards Pasty there on the right, since Primeverse Starscream is the palest and greyest of all mechs in the series so far.
Ps: gosh I’m on the edge of my seat with this show, and wondering how they’re going to end up balancing Starscream’s badass moments with his overwhelming patheticness.
Anyway, I could sure do with a vote on what colours looks best.
Or maybe we all just like Loud Noises, I dunno.
Oh look, a picture of a giant robot who is neither very giant NOR a robot. Welp, so much for my first Transformers fanart being very true to the series. Anyway, trying my hand at drawing Primeverse Starscream as a human because no matter how hard it is to render people, they’re still easier than big metal alien men. Humans in general also require less rulers to draw, and let’s not even talk about me and vehicles (or vehicle-people for that matter).
Other people!formers I ‘ve got on the go right now include:
I wanted to draw Ratchet (and still might if I can think of an outfit for him) but Bulkhead, and Optimus are giving me trouble. Optimus especially since his helmet looks like a baseball cap and his … robot goatee and weird… three lines of ‘hair’ peeking out from under his ‘hat’ are all kind of tough to translate into a person in my style.
By the way, I do have an entire outfit an actual pose that extends below Starscream’s neck but I’m currently caught up in trying to decide between two potential colour schemes. The spot colours are on tumblr, so I’ll upload them here pretty soon too.
